Is it Really Almost Christmas?

Time passes more quickly as you get older
or, at least, it certainly seems that way to me.

This month a friend and I planned for Scott Antique Market and
I wanted to include a vintage chest that I bought several years ago and had been thinking about painting as a *suitcase* chest.

Trouble is, I was out of time.
I mean, seriously, is it really almost Christmas?
Seems like just yesterday was Halloween!

So I got busy painting, using Annie Sloan Paint in Graphite,
Old White, and Emperor's Silk,
adding some Tints All, Benjamin Moore latex I had on hand, and some craft acrylics.

It took *forever* to measure and place Frog Tape and
artist's tape for the stripes and design.

The colors didn't turn out exactly as I envisioned
and the hardware almost took longer than
the chest --
First painting the hardware and deciding which drawer
would get what, then adding additional stripes and measuring yet again before installing.

By the time I was finished
the chest had gone in a totally different direction
than I first envisioned.

But what I wound up with seemed perfect for this time of year;
bright "toyshop" colors in a whimsical design.

So, have you ever had a theme or color scheme in mind
and had it highjack itself in another direction?
Maybe turning out even better than what you planned?
I love those little surprises...

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year!

In the meantime, thanks for stopping by...

  1. I love this because it looks perfect for Christmas. Obviously you did a terrific job with the painting and the frogging. It look like there's some green to it, which only makes it better. The decorations add just the right touch to this gorgeous piece. I saw this at Miss Mustard Seed's FFF. Ann Marie @ Iris Abbey
