UMCH Flea Market

Yesterday, a friend and I began our day at the United Methodist Children's Home in Decatur, GA. I didn't even know the campus was here much less that they hold fabulous flea markets two or three times a year.

Two large buildings are filled to overflowing with donations of clothing, household goods, jewelry, furniture and more.

I have never seen a more organized market. The volunteers obviously spent hundreds of hours gathering, sorting, and displaying the items for sale.  And if you need someone to get that frame hanging on the wall way over your head they're right there with a ladder to get it down for you.

I couldn't help thinking of my father as I made my way through each room. Raised in a Methodist Orphanage in Columbia, SC, Dad was a ward of the state from age 5 to graduating high school at 16. He later became an engineer, loving husband and father, always crediting his upbringing for instilling in him such an incredible value system.  I'm glad my two small purchases yesterday are a part of the $40,000 the Decatur Children's Home expects to raise during this two day event.

Their Fall Flea Market will be on October 11 and 12.  I've already marked my calendar.  It's definitely one I don't want to miss!
